One thing to keep in mind is that off-brand balance trainer alternatives are a lot cheaper. You don’t get the same Bosu brand security but many users report a similar quality.

If you plan to get a Bosu Ball trainer at home, “The Original” model may be a cheaper option with very similar capabilities.

For individuals who are on a budget and don’t mind a smaller Bosu Ball with less capacity, the Bosu Sport can also be a cheaper option.

What is the Bosu Pro Balance Trainer used for?

You can use Bosu Balls in different ways. The main ones include balance, coordination, stretching, and resistance training. One thing to keep in mind is that Bosu Balls are not great for most resistance training exercises.

The main goal of resistance training is to challenge your muscles enough to cause muscle growth. The extra balance aspect Bosu Balls add is generally not helpful for this.

There are exercises where this does not apply. These are mostly workouts like core exercises and hip thrusts where you put the Bosu Ball with the flat part down and lean on it with your upper body.

I personally don’t use the Bosu Pro Balance Trainer a lot but that’s because I’m currently not focused on improving my balance and coordination. Some of my other workouts like running, lifting weights, and soccer already train these fitness components a nice amount.

I consider myself to have relatively good balance as an active 23-year old but when I do balance exercises on the Bosu Pro Balance Trainer these definitely feel like a challenge at times. I can imagine that even athletes more experienced with balance training can find the one-legged Bosu Ball balance exercises with the round part on the ground challenging.

At the same time, the Bosu Pro Balance trainer is also accessible to relatively inexperienced individuals. As a beginner trying to improve balance and coordination I would put the Bosu Ball with the flat part on the ground next to something you can hold for balance.

So in short, the Bosu Pro Balance Trainer is mainly good for improving balance and coordination in individuals of a wide variety of skill levels. It can also be helpful for certain stretching and resistance training exercises.

The Pro modal specifically is meant to be able to withstand commercial environments. Its extra weight capacity and rubber strap can be helpful for a variety of users and uses.

How long does the Bosu Pro Balance Trainer last?

The Bosu Pro Balance Trainer from this review is around 4 years old. It is not used that often in the rehabilitation area it is currently in due to the specific type of people that have a need for it in this area.

This is definitely not as much as a commercial gym where a Bosu Ball could be used 8 hours a day up to 5 days a week or more.

However, during the use of this particular Bosu Pro Balance Trainer, it only had to be inflated only once. No re-inflations were needed so far.

One review claims damage to their Bosu Pro Balance Trainer at about their third week of use. However, these reviews are scarce and in my personal experience, these Bosu Balls can last a long time.

There is no doubt the Bosu Pro Balance Trainer can be a helpful piece of fitness equipment for many individuals. There are of course also Bosu Ball alternatives, both the Pro Balance Trainer and the Bosu Brand.

Bosu Pro vs Bosu Pro NexGen

There are many different Bosu models of which multiple have a spot on our selection of best Bosu Balls. One of these is the Bosu Pro NexGen.

The main difference is the texture of the round part. The extra texture divides the surface into 4 parts.

This difference in texture can be helpful in cases of heavy use or personal preference but for many people, the Bosu Pro NexGen is likely not worth the relatively high price.

Bosu Pro vs “The Original”/Home

Another option when it comes to Bosu Balls is “The Original” also known as the home option since it is not meant for commercial use.

The Original has a lower weight limit of 300 pounds (instead of 350 pounds like the Pro), it comes with 6 rubber feet instead of a strap, it is available in different colors, and it has a lower price.

A weight capacity of 300 pounds should still be enough for most people and uses. The rubber feet are definitely not as durable and effective as a strap. Even so, if you don’t jump sideways against the Bosu Ball this should still be fine.

“The Original” Bosu Ball is a great more budget-friendly alternative for individuals. For commercial/heavy use or use by heavy individuals in a rough way, the Pro is likely still the better option.

Bosu Pro vs Bosu Sport Balance

The Bosu Sport Balance model is a smaller, weaker, and cheaper alternative to the Bosu Pro.

The weight capacity of the Bosu Sport Balance is 250 pounds (instead of 350 pounds of the Pro), the diameter is 22 inches/50 centimeters (instead of 26 inches/65 centimeters), the height is 7 inches (instead of 10 inches), and at the time of writing about 25% cheaper.

For some people, the Bosu Sport Balance is the better cheaper choice. Others find the surface too small and the height too easy. Both can be great Bosu Balls for different users and situations.

Bosu Pro vs off-brand alternatives

Bosu is not the only half-ball balance trainer brand out there. There are other options that work on the same concept and offer similar training options as the Bosu Ball.

Buying from a 20-year old brand like Bosu does give a certain quality guarantee and secure feeling that you will get a good product, and if not, that the support service will resolve your issue.

At the same time, many users of the off-brand alternatives are also happy with their investment. Some even claim that the quality is similar to the Bosu Ball brand.

I personally have not used any off-brand alternatives so I can’t say anything about the feel or difference in duration.

The many positive user reviews do make you think that you can get at least a good half-ball balance trainer from other brands, at a price that is in some cases less than 50% of the price of the Bosu Pro.

Is the Bosu Pro Balance Trainer worth it?

For individuals who want to train balance and coordination, the Bosu Pro Balance Trainer can definitely be worth it.

For the other uses of a Bosu Ball you can likely find better equipment alternatives. That being said, one of the nice things about the versatility of a Bosu Ball is that you can use the same piece of equipment for all of these uses.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are also off-brand alternatives that are a lot cheaper. It is hard to say exactly what the quality difference is but many users of these off-brand alternatives are also happy with their purchase.
