The weight is one of the important details of a plyo box. Find out how heavy it should be for your situation and training goals.
First of all, the weight limits of plyo boxes are not the same as their weights. Certain heavy models have a relatively low weight limit compared to other options.
The weight of a plyo box is mostly important to avoid tipping over.
How heavy it should exactly be depends on many factors including your body weight, the extra weights you use, what plyo box exercises you do, how much sideways force you generate, etc.
That being said, if you are worried about the box tipping over, you generally want to go for the wooden plyo boxes although there are exceptions.
Wooden plyo boxes typically have the lowest center of gravity in combination with the highest weights.
More specifically, 30″ height wooden plyo boxes are generally around 50 to 56 pounds (22.7 to 25.4 kg).
A positive exception is the Sunny Health & Fitness Wooden Plyo Box which is 74 pounds (33.6 kg) and comes with a removable soft cover.
The rest of this article also goes over why the same weight in foam plyo is not the same as a wooden model in terms of balance and a table with individual plyo box options, their weights, and their weight capacities.
Balance wood vs foam plyo box
Many details influence the choice between wood vs foam plyo boxes but two of them are their weights and stability.
Foam plyo boxes are typically around 12 to 30 pounds (5.4 to 13.6 kg) although there are a few exceptions like the Rogue Foam Games Box which is 58 pounds (26.3 kg).
Customers tend to be very happy about the stability of the Rogue model.
The main thing to keep in mind is that some other brands make their foam plyo boxes heavier by putting some type of heavy material in the middle of the foam box.
While this helps to some extent, the center of gravity of that plyo box is still somewhat high compared to a wooden plyo box of the same number of pounds where the weight is also distributed at the bottom.
Some people do still prefer a softer yet stable plyo box to learn the plyo box jump exercise.
Plyo box weights
By now you understand that while the weight of a plyo box is not everything, it does offer information that can be useful.
In the table below you can find a list of popular plyo boxes, their weights, and their weight capacities.
You can click the product names to find where they are available online and decide whether they are worth it.
The table below generally uses the weights and weight capacities of the 30″-high models but not always.
Additionally, some of the weights below are the total package weight due to the lack of a mention of a specific weight.
Something else to keep in mind is that the dimensions of the plyo boxes and how you use them also influence stability.
For example, putting a 3 in 1 plyo box on its smallest side will be the most unstable.
That being said, the average weight of the plyo boxes on the list is 38.18 pounds (17.32 kg) and the median weight is 32 pounds (14.51 kg).
